Could You Imagine What it’s Like to Lose 100lbs?
Shoot. Some of us would disappear or, just be a sack of vital organs.
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching two students through their journey of losing 100+ lbs. Losing this amount of weight is astonishing to think about. What it takes to lose that is even more so!
The soreness, fatigue, diet failures, gym partners not showing up and, lack of visual results can be such a huge hurdle to cross and, very few people have the willpower to get this monumental goal of getting into better shape and, taking care of yourself, completed!
It will take time. It will be difficult. But, IT IS WORTH IT!
From the dedication to diet and showing up to train every day whether you feel like it or not, I love being able to share their stories. Meet Paul. I can’t tell you how proud I am of this student!
My name is Paul Cicconetti, I am 25 years old. That picture is me when I first started Jiu Jitsu at Vagabond at 281lbs.
I’ve always been active in sports growing up. I played football throughout high school and even played a little in college. I was an offensive and defensive lineman my whole life so, I had to be big.
I decided to participate in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu because a good friend of mine was doing it and would always talk to me about it. I wasn’t lifting or working out at all and was incredibly overweight for my age. Training martial arts sounded like a good idea.
Having an urge to start something new and get into shape, Jiu Jitsu sparked my interest.
What made me want to lose as much fat as possible was the simple fact that I was fed-up with being the fat guy wherever I went! I was only 24 years old!
I resented myself for allowing it to get out of control as badly as it did.
On my 24th birthday I made a promise to myself that in exactly one year, on my 25th birthday, I would be in the best shape of my entire life.
That personal goal was accomplished to the day exactly as I had promised myself it would. I lost 100 pounds. I haven’t weighed this much since I was in junior high and I’m stronger and feel better than I ever have.
It’s like I’m a new person.
One of the biggest benefits for me that I have noticed is that I do not get nervous in potentially tough situations. It is also a great stress reliever. My job is very stressful; Jiu Jitsu is the outlet for that stress.
Having a bad day? Go choke a fool.
Lastly, it was a huge lifestyle change. I love striving to be the best that I can every day in my life because of Jiu Jitsu.
I don’t have the want to go and make poor diet choices or slug down brews. I want to be able to do my best during training.
If I could tell someone one thing that is in similar shoes to the ones I used to wear, I would tell them to just go out and get it done. Take care of your business. Stop making the same lame excuses everyone else makes.
Be bold and believe that you can and also believe in yourself. People are going to try and drag you down. Don’t let them waste your time.
This is me exactly one year later. 🙂
These results are absolutely amazing! With a sound diet and an amazing place to train martial arts in Odessa, Texas, Paul lost the equivalent of a teenager.
I’ve seen a few MAJOR changes in his attitude as well.
He’s not quick to choose anger as the frustration default because his patience level has been increased. (Which also translates into his everyday life at work)
There is a smile on his face almost everytime I see him walk through the doors at Vagabond Martial Arts and always a positive outlook on what he has to face at work, with home-life or whatever.
All of this AND 100 lbs.
So, that’s what it’s like to lose 100lbs! Pretty freaking awesome!
