Do you find yourself dragging more ass that you kick, these days?
Here are 3 ways to kick ass in life that aren’t gonna kill your vibe or your bank account.
#1: Put the Bottle Down!
Not only is this going to affect the amount of money in your bank account, but it’s also going to raise the level of your HEALTH! In life, it’s the long game that matters. You can’t win if you aren’t around! You’ll have a clearer mind AND vision for your future and be able to really decide what you’re doing with yourself. You’ll also find yourself with more time on your hands. More time to focus on what you love and yourself!
There’s nothing wrong with a beer or two with a meal, guys. I’ll enjoy one just like any other red-blooded man. If I drink too much one night, I know that I will pay for it the next day. Not with a hangover. That’s a given. When I hit the Jiu Jitsu academy the next day, I know I’m going to get my ass handed to me and I’m not going to be any better at my chosen activity. I really like to be good at jiu jitsu so, drinking takes a back seat. Otherwise, I get my ass kicked and I suck until the next training period.
#2: Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
This is probably one of the HARDEST things to do in life for some people. This type of action is so energy draining and will might even completely deflate yourself even when you do something REEEEAALLY well. Cut these energy vampires out of your life and focus on what is really important. YOU!
This might take a long time to do but, once you’re able to focus on the positives and negatives in your own life, you’ll start to see the beauty in living it as you. One of the best ways to do this is to find and expose yourself to groups of people that are supportive of individual growth. Great places to do this are family or community focused gyms and activities such as training martial arts, yoga/spin classes or even CrossFit gyms.
Dr. Suess said it best: “Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive that is youer than you.”
#3: DO HARD STUFF
If you’re not doing something to challenge yourself, you will never grow. You will be weak, a push-over, a stepping stone, someone else’s victory. Doing something that stresses your physical body also helps you grow mentally tougher. You know that you can tell Bob from accounting that, I quote, “Can eat a shit-pie and do his own job.” because you know that Bob can’t fight and you’ve been training jiu-jitsu for the last 6 months so basically you’re a certified, deadly weapon.
Whether it’s lifting weights, fasting an extra few hours, training brazilian jiu jitsu or, running down the block or track a few times, IT AIN’T EASY and you have to have a certain level of mental dexterity and toughness to make it home. This BREEDS confidence throughout your entire life. Not just in the gym or wherever you developed it.
Look, maybe you think drinking a six-pack a day is normal. Maybe you bitch and whine when everything gets difficult and ask why Bob has it so much easier than you. We hope you don’t. Really. Quit.
We know it’s difficult to find things to do that are fun, useful AND keep our attention. That’s why I suggest training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to people. It will give you a supportive community and an activity that will help you drop your habits.
Life doesn’t get easier unless you make it. You can’t make anything do what you want unless you’re mentally and physically strong enough to do it.
