3 Things to Expect in Your First Jiu Jitsu Class
Check out these 3 things that you should expect when attending your first Jiu Jitsu Class.
- Expect to sweat!
You’re going to be moving for the majority of the time you are in class. Your heart rate will be elevated and you’ll be using muscles that you are not used to using! Even the most basic movements of Jiu Jitsu will have you getting a workout in on mostly untrained muscles. Don’t forget to bring some water! You’re going to want it. 🙂 - You’re gonna be close to someone that you may have never met before.
Like, really close. The results of training BJJ are of the close quarter nature. You’re essentially wrestling another human being and in order to do that, you need to be as close as possible. That’s why we always recommend bringing a friend! If you’re reaching out to the academy by yourself, your introduction will be with another student in the same class. This person will already be familiar with the techniques so, you’ll also have someone to lean on if you can’t remember what’s going on or the instructor is with someone else. - Your Comfort Zone will expand.
There is a lot in martial arts that is downright uncomfortable. To get any kind of result that is worth noting (whether it be physical or mental) you will have to become comfortable in uncomfortable places. When you’re an adult, you’re usually pretty stuck in a routine every day. It’s comfortable. Going to the gym, working out, being sore is all unavoidable uncomfortable. ut, the results are so stinking worth it! You’d probably be pretty surprised to know how much fun it is to learn new things with the culture and community that Jiu Jitsu supports.
Bonus!
You’re going to have fun.
The atmosphere that the coaches and students bring is indescribable! Everyone is so supportive and probably just as excited that you’re there to train as you are. because everyone on the mat was where you are at one time. For some of them, it was decades ago. For others, maybe a month or two. But, they are all grateful that you found Jiu Jitsu and hope you love it as much as they do.
There are all kinds of great stuff that’s associated with training at Vagabond.
The only thing missing is YOU!
